Philosophy
The Groovy Baker is a combination of all that I am; passionate about wholesome foods, supportive of the local community, and environmentally aware.
How is food produced in America? With enormous numbers of people to feed, American ingenuity has led to methods of producing lots of food for lots of people inexpensively.
But at what true cost to our health and our environment?
Huge agri-business conglomerates are destroying what has essentially defined America. Franchises and chains have replaced the ’cute mom and pop’ - where you knew you could get a great cup of coffee or ice cream cone with standardized, impersonal, conveyor-belt-like homogenization.
These enormous businesses make it nearly impossible for the small, independent farmer, business man, or person with a dream to simply exist. Ironically, these are the people who historically have defined America.
Happily, many people have begun looking at the methods of raising the things we eat. From both a philosophical approach as well as a biochemical one.
As for the planet earth, we are coming to realize that resources are not unlimited. Industry cannot over farm, over graze and over pollute beyond the capability of the environment to heal itself. There has to be a better way.
There is a better way. And it’s pretty groovy.
I support my small local farmers - I know them by name. Very often my creations will be the result of a conversation that starts with “Hi - it’s Lisa, what’s good today?”
I shop within my local community.
If I have an organic option for my ingredients, I use it.
All of my baking is done from scratch - down to the smallest details like marshmallow cream and caramel sauces…..from scratch, every time.
Good for you, good for the community, good for the planet. As well as just plain good to eat. That’s what The Groovy Baker is all about.
